Liverpool faced Bayern Munich in a thrilling pre-season friendly match in Singapore, which ended with the Bavarian club securing a 4-3 victory. Liverpool, coming off a disappointing season, had made significant changes to their midfield during the summer transfer window, signing Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister to bolster their ranks.
The match saw Liverpool’s new signings, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister, starting in midfield together for the first time. Liverpool named Virgil van Dijk as their new captain, following Jordan Henderson’s departure from the club.
The game was action-packed from the beginning, with Liverpool taking an early lead as Cody Gakpo scored within the opening two minutes. Bayern Munich responded with goals from Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane, leveling the score at 2-2. Virgil van Dijk then powered a header into the net from a corner, putting Liverpool ahead 3-2 before half-time.
In the second half, Bayern equalized again through Josip Stanisic’s goal from a free kick. Liverpool regained the lead with Luis Diaz’s goal, but Bayern’s 20-year-old substitute, Frans Krätzig, scored in stoppage time to secure a dramatic 4-3 win for his team.
Liverpool supporters had reasons to be optimistic about the upcoming season, as their team displayed attacking prowess with plenty of goals. However, defensive vulnerabilities were evident, which could be a concern for manager Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool would be looking to address these issues before the Premier League starts, with their first game against Chelsea.
